Tips #2: Feeding your baby
|
There are basically 2 types of feeding your baby. In general,
breastfeeding is better as it benefits both the mother and baby. Young mothers are mistaken that formula can
replace breast milk. However, research has found out that no matter how many vitamins, mineral and
supplements are added, it can NEVER replace the properties of breast milk. In addition, breastfeeding
promotes a very special bond between mother and child.
Step-by-step techniques
Get yourself into a correct position which you are comfortable with
before you start to breastfeed you baby.
If you are seated down:
Step 1: Ensure that you support your back and arms with
cushions.
Step 2: Hold your baby’s head close to your
breast.
Step 3: Ensure that her whole body should face
you.
If you are lying down:
Step 1: Lay on your side on a sofa or bed with your legs up,
supporting your head with a pillow or your hand.
Step 2: Place your baby beside and facing you so that the baby can
feed from the lower breast
After feeding your baby, you need to wind your baby. Hold them over
your shoulder and pat or rub their back to relieve wind.

The only way babies can communicate is by crying.
Although their crying could be very irritating, but if they never cry, you would never know what they need. The

Tired |
The best way to comfort them is to attend to their
basic needs, give them your attention, smile to them, rocking them gently, let them listen to your heartbeat and
allow them to enjoy the skin-to-skin contact.
Parents usually give their baby a daily bath, which is fine as long as you and your baby enjoy
it. However, until the 6th month or so, it does not matter if they are being bath once
every three days as long as you wash their face, hands, feet and bottom every day.
Step-by-step techniques
Step 1: Fill the bath tub with 2 to 3 inches of warm water (around 90°C).
Step 2: Bring your baby to the bath area and undress them completely.
Step 3: Slowly slip them into the tub, using one
hand to support their head and neck. Pour cupfuls of bath water over them regularly.
Step 4: Use soap to wash them with your hand from
top to bottom, front to back.
Step 5: Rinse them thoroughly and wrap them in a
towel and pat them dry.
